Pulitzer Prize-winning Columnist to Speak at Trinity University
SAN ANTONIO — Charles Krauthammer, Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist and television commentator, will present Trinity University's Flora Cameron Lecture on Politics and Public Affairs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in Laurie Auditorium. The title of his lecture is "International Affairs: An Overview." His presentation is free and open to the public.
Dr. Krauthammer challenges conventional wisdom with practically every word he writes. He has been honored from every part of the political spectrum for his bold, lucid, and original writing — from the famously liberal People for the American Way to the staunchly conservative Bradley Foundation. The Financial Times named him the most influential commentator in America, where for two decades, his writings have helped shape American foreign policy.
His syndicated column for The Washington Post, for which he won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary, is published weekly in over 190 newspapers worldwide. He also writes a monthly essay for TIME magazine and is a contributing editor to The Weekly Standard and The New Republic. Dr. Krauthammer is a weekly panelist on Inside Washington and a contributor to FOX News.
Born in New York City and raised in Montreal, Dr. Krauthammer was educated at McGill University, Oxford University, and Harvard. While serving as a resident and then chief resident in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, he published scientific papers, including his co-discovery of a form of bipolar disease. In 1978, Dr. Krauthammer quit medical practice to go to Washington to direct planning in psychiatric research in the Carter administration. He began contributing articles to The New Republic, and joined the magazine in 1981 as a writer and editor. His New Republic writings won the 1984 National Magazine Award for Essays and Criticism, the highest award in magazine journalism. From 2001 to 2006, Dr. Krauthammer served on the President's Council on Bioethics.
He lives in suburban Washington with Robyn, an artist. Their son, Daniel, is a student at Oxford University.
The Flora Cameron Lecture on Politics and Public Affairs is made possible by an endowment gift by Flora C. Crichton of San Antonio.
