Memphis, Tenn. — Elaine Gazda, professor of art and archaeology at the University of Michigan, will present "Life and Art in Roman Villas on the Bay of Naples" at Rhodes College February 16 as the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar. Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Blount Auditorium of Buckman Hall.

Gazda has been a curator at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology and is a frequent visiting scholar at the American Academy in Rome. Her scholarly interests include Roman sculpture and painting, Etruscan art and archaeology, and Graeco-Roman art and archaeology. She is the editor of The Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii, The Ancient Art of Emulation, and Roman Art in the Private Sphere, among others.

Her lecture is part of the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholars Program and is being sponsored by the Gamma of Tennessee chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Rhodes has had a chapter of the prestigious organization since 1949. Lecture cosponsors are Rhodes' Greek and Roman Studies, Search Program, Department of Art, and Lillian and Morrie Moss Endowment for the Visual Arts.
