HARTFORD, CT — Ed J. Walters, a member of Trinity College's class of 2008, has been awarded a Clarendon Scholarship by the University of Oxford in Oxford, England. Walters, of Concord, Mass., will use the scholarship to earn a M. Sc. (Masters of Science degree) in comparative social policy at Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world and a leader in learning, teaching and research.
Walters is expected to graduate from Trinity on May 18 with a B.A. in English literature and a GPA of 3.9 out of 4.0. Among the other honors that Walters has received is induction in Phi Beta Kappa, the Ruel Compton Tuttle Prize (given annually to the top two juniors in Trinity's English Department), and the Erasmus Prize in the Humanities.
The Clarendon Scholarship is based solely on academic merit and is available to students who live outside the United Kingdom. The majority of the awards covers university and college fees and provides some money for living expenses. Approximately 100 scholarships are awarded each year.
There are about 20,000 students at the University of Oxford, of which slightly more than 7,000 are engaged in graduate studies. |
