 GREENCASTLE, Ind., Nov. 29, 2007 - Gruveller, a play written by DePauw University senior Olufemi "Femi" Akeredolu, will be presented next Wednesday Thursday, December 5-6. The performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Moore Theatre of the Green Center for the Performing Arts and are free and open to all.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Femi Akeredolu came to DePauw to study chemistry, with the goal of someday becoming a pharmacist. But classes in writing and literature led him down another path. After working on a play an upper-level playwrighting course taught by Chris White, assistant professor of English, and doing further work in  Professor Tom Chiarella's senior writing seminar, Akeredolu found himself with a full-length play.
Last summer, working with Professor White under a faculty-student research grant, Akeredolu revised the play, and asked Professor Ron Dye, of the theatre and English programs, to direct.
Gruveller examines such issues as immigration and political munipulation, with music, poetic language, and folk-tale sensibility. The play is at times bawdy and comedic, while also poignant and thought-provoking.
