Society for the Scientific Study of Religion Honors DePauw Prof


Nancy Davis 2006.jpgGREENCASTLE, Ind., Nov. 5, 2007 - Nancy J. Davis, Lester Martin Jones Professor of Sociology at DePauw University, is the co-recipient of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion's 2007 "Distinguished Research Award." Dr. Davis and Indiana University's Robert V. Robinson were honored at the SSSR's annual meeting in Florida for their article, "The Egalitarian Face of Islamic Orthodoxy: Support for Islamic Law and Economic Justice in Seven Muslim-Majority Nations."

Founded in 1949, the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion stimulates, promotes, and communicates social science research about religious institutions and experiences. Visit the organization online.

The joint effort of Professors Davis and Robinson previously received the 2007 Distinguished Article Award from the American Sociological Association's Sociology of Religion section. The research, which was noted in the Toronto Star, was published in the American Sociological Review last year.
